New Beginners Course January 2019

A 13-week Beginners Running Programme to run 5k

Start date 9th January 2019 – sign up now – limited spaces!

Why this is for you

Have you always wanted to run or are you thinking about running to shed those few post-Xmas pounds or just to get fit!  Here’s a 13-week beginner running programme that takes the guesswork out of running.  At the start of the programme you may just be able to get off the couch and walk round the block, but by the end of the 13 weeks, you will be able to run 3miles (5km)

This is a great way to get fit and meet new friends along the way – all abilities welcome.  You must be over 18 years old

The programme

There will be a structured programme and you will be fully supported by Brentwood Running Club (BRC) qualified running leaders/coaches throughout the programme.  Steve Birkett and Tina Leung, who are running the programme, are both experienced runners with a wealth of experience to share with you

The programme is FREE, but you will be required to join the BRC which is £50 for a yearly subscription.  You will receive a hi-viz vest, and have unlimited access to the BRC group runs, discount on races and a whole lot more!

You are quite welcome to try out the programme for a week or two before committing yourself to joining, as you may find that it is not for you

Start date

The programme starts on 9th January at 7pm at the Brentwood Centre in Doddinghurst Road (where the BRC is based), and will run every Wednesday evening until the end of March.  However, at that point you can move on to an Improvers group to take you up to 10K, or join another group in the club if you feel ready

So the programme is once a week but you will find it helpful if you are able to exercise between sessions

How to sign up or find out more

Email Steve Birkett:  or leave a message on our website (under ‘Join Us’) or Facebook page to sign up or for further information or questions you may have

Other Questions

 What equipment will I need?

Here’s the best part.  The only equipment you’ll need is a pair of running shoes, some comfortable clothes and a watch.  We will be running at night so you will need to wear something light or preferably reflective.  We will provide you with a hi-viz vest

I may not be able to make all the weeks?

That’s ok but the amount of running will increase gradually, so if you miss a week it will be best to try and do the scheduled run in your own time (you will receive a schedule at the start of the programme)

How many people will be in the group?

Up to about 20. You will all be a different standard, but no-one gets left behind

I am so unfit and have never run before?

This programme is designed for you. You just need the commitment and motivation to sign up and follow the programme

 I have a medical condition/disability – can I still sign up?

If you are in any doubt, you should consult your doctor first. You can then discuss this with the programme leaders.  We are an inclusive club!
